You can now get Yoga Journal for $15.97 a year, 64% off the cover price of $44.91 (It has gone up from $34.73 a year). You immediately pocket a savings of $28.94, more than enough to attend an extra yoga class this week.
Yoga Journal is the leading publication in the growing “yoga industry.” Month after month, YJ brings you great articles to help you take your yoga practice deeper.
Every now and then an article is just too girlie for me to stomach (this month that article is about how to get in touch with your inner goddess), but there’s enough packed into every issue that I can overlook a couple of pages that don’t appeal to me.
For instance, in this month’s issue that just arrived, there’s an article about how yoga helps fight memory loss. Another article gives meditations to do while holding poses.
There’s a great article on cooking with ayurvedic tips for better digestion.

But the “practice” section alone makes Yoga Journal well worth the subscription. Every month there are two or three articles that explain postures or posture sequences in great depth.
Sometimes these are difficult postures, but the articles suggest other poses to use to build your strength, flexibility and focus in order to build up to the harder postures. And there are plenty of pictures to show you how.
This month in practice basics, there’s an article complete with photos on all the ins and outs of upward facing dog pose. There’s a cool posture sequence to build core strength and balance in the home practice section.
And in the master class section? An article on how to build up to the forearm balance pose, also known as Peacock’s Tail Feather pose.
These articles give me something new to work on in my home practice, and something to share in my yoga classes.
These three articles alone are well worth the subscription price, and at $15.97 for the year, you really can’t go wrong.

Oh, and in the back section of Yoga Journal this month, there’s a discussion around whether “competition yoga” should be added as an Olympic sport. What do you think of this issue?
